The UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) in collaboration with the Government of Spain and with the support of Volkswagen organized on April 14 the seminar "Electric Mobility in Spanish Biosphere Reserves" in which sustainability, energy and electric mobility specialists presented the challenges and opportunities for a sustainable energy future.
This seminar marked the launching of the electric mobility project in the Bardenas Reales, Valles del Jubera, Leza, Cidacos and Alhama, and Ordesa Viñamana biosphere reserves. It sought to reduce pollution in these regions, facilitate adaptation to the new demands for sustainable mobility in the reserves, strengthen environmental education in the protected environment, as well as to reduce the carbon footprint of visitors in these natural reserves.
The MOVELETUR project, led by the Fundación Patrimonio Natural de Castilla y León, served as a case of good practices of electric mobility in natural spaces.
The project has promoted a sustainable and clean tourism model for visitors on border natural areas, creating a network of "green" tourist itineraries that connect points of natural and cultural value through electric vehicles. In addition, it has trained entrepreneurs in the tourism sector and entrepreneurs of natural spaces to offer an electric mobility tourism offer.
GARVELAND
The Andalusian Energy Agency participated in the meeting to present the actions carried out within the framework of the Garveland Project that it has led, the Action Plan for the promotion of electric mobility in areas of special tourist and environmental interest. The project´s objective was to promote the electric vehicle in the cross-border cooperation zone by connecting Algarve and Andalusia with "green routes", involving municipalities, protected areas and enclaves of tourist interest.
Amparo Manso, from the Agency's Internationalization and Foresight department, reported on the actions developed to promote electric mobility in natural areas, as well as the measures contained in the Comprehensive Action Plan to Promote Electric Vehicles, with which the project was completed in 2020.
